Biography
Edward Manson Stevenson was an American costume designer. Born in Pocatello, Idaho, he moved to California after high school and interned with designer Andre-ani before entering films. He was named head designer for RKO Studios in 1936 and held the post until 1949.
Stevenson received costume design credits on more than two hundred films and television productions. His work includes Citizen Kane (1941), The Magnificent Ambersons (1942), Suspicion (1941), It's a Wonderful Life (1946), Out of the Past (1947) and Gunga Din (1939).
In 1961 he shared the Academy Award for Best Costume Design (black and white) with Edith Head for The Facts of Life (1960). He maintained a long association with Lucille Ball, designing her costumes for eighteen years across films and series including I Love Lucy.
