Biography
Eizo Kaimai (開米 栄三, also credited as Kaimai Eizō or Cho-san) was a Japanese modeler and costume designer. He began working for Toho in 1954 on the original Godzilla, contributing to suit construction, and continued on subsequent entries in the series including Godzilla Raids Again (1955), King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962), Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964) and Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964).
Kaimai left Toho in 1966 to establish Kaimai Productions. He later provided modeling work for Daiei’s Gamera films and Tsuburaya Productions’ television series, notably the Ultraman franchise through the early 1980s. He was born in Tokyo in 1929 and died there on 24 April 2020.
