Biography
Fred Hole (8 May 1935 – 4 February 2011) was a British art director. Born in Cardiff, Wales, he worked in the film industry from the 1960s until 2002, beginning with roles such as chief draughtsman on early James Bond films.
He contributed to numerous major productions, including assistant art director on Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) and Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and art director or supervising art director on Return of the Jedi (1983), Aliens (1986), Alien³ (1992), Mission: Impossible (1996), Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002) and Die Another Day (2002). He received an Academy Award nomination for Best Art Direction for Return of the Jedi.
