Biography

Jay Rabinowitz is an American film editor certified by the American Cinema Editors. He is frequently associated with the work of directors Jim Jarmusch and Darren Aronofsky.

He graduated from New York University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Cinema Studies. While a student he interned on Jarmusch's Down by Law (1986) and later served as assistant editor on Mystery Train (1989). From Night on Earth (1991) he edited seven of Jarmusch's films, including Dead Man (1995), Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999), Coffee and Cigarettes (2003), Broken Flowers (2005) and The Limits of Control (2009).

Other credits include Requiem for a Dream (2000), 8 Mile (2002), The Fountain (2006), The Tree of Life (2011) and Beast (2022). His editing on Requiem for a Dream received best editing awards from the Online Film Critics Society and the Phoenix Film Critics Society. He received an American Cinema Editors nomination for Year of the Horse (1997).
