Biography

John Bright is a British costume designer. He founded the costume house Cosprop in 1965 and has collaborated extensively with Jenny Beavan on period films, particularly those produced by Merchant Ivory.

Bright's credits include costume design for A Room with a View (1985), Maurice (1987), Howards End (1992), The Remains of the Day (1993) and Sense and Sensibility (1995). He won the Academy Award and BAFTA for Best Costume Design for A Room with a View, and received further Oscar nominations for several of the other films.

He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2024 for services to costume design and heritage.
