Biography
Lance Acord is an American cinematographer and commercial director. Born on 9 September 1964 in Fresno County, California, he studied photography and filmmaking at the San Francisco Art Institute. He began his professional career assisting photographer and filmmaker Bruce Weber on documentaries, commercials and music videos.
Acord's feature film debut was as cinematographer on Vincent Gallo's Buffalo '66 (1998). He went on to shoot Spike Jonze's Being John Malkovich (1999), Adaptation. (2002) and Where the Wild Things Are (2009), and Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation (2003) and Marie Antoinette (2006). In music videos and commercials he collaborated frequently with Jonze and others, winning an MTV Video Music Award for Best Cinematography for Fatboy Slim's "Weapon of Choice" (2001). In 1998 he co-founded the production company Park Pictures, through which he has directed commercials and received numerous Cannes Lions awards.
