Biography

Matt Witten is an American television writer. He began his career as a playwright, with The Deal (1989) winning the Clauder Playwriting Competition. Freelance episodes for Homicide: Life on the Street (1993) and Law & Order (1990) led to a move to Los Angeles, after which he wrote for series including House (2004), Pretty Little Liars (2010), Supernatural (2005), CSI: Miami (2002), Medium (2005), JAG (1995) and The Glades (2010).

Witten has also authored mystery and thriller novels, including the Jacob Burns series and The Necklace (2021), which was optioned for film by Appian Way with Leonardo DiCaprio attached as producer. He teaches television writing part-time at UCLA Extension. Born in Baltimore, he graduated from Amherst College and holds an MFA in playwriting from Brandeis University.
