Biography

Nigel Phelps is an English production designer and art director. Born on 16 March 1962, he trained at the Royal College of Art in London. He began his career as a draftsman and storyboard artist, working with production designer Anton Furst on films including The Company of Wolves (1984) and Full Metal Jacket (1987).

Phelps served as art director on Tim Burton's Batman (1989), for which the art department received an Academy Award. He later became a production designer, with credits including Judge Dredd (1995), Troy (2004), Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009), Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011), World War Z (2013), Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017), Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019) and Thor: Love and Thunder (2022). He has received three MTV Video Music Award nominations for art direction.
