Biography

Peter Murton was a British film art director and production designer. Born in London, he followed his father Walter W. Murton into the profession; his son Simon Murton later became an art director as well.

Murton worked as an art director for production designer Ken Adam on Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964), Goldfinger (1964) and Thunderball (1965). He advanced to production designer on the James Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun (1974), for which he suggested Thailand as a primary location. His other production design credits include The Ruling Class (1972), Death on the Nile (1978), Superman II (1980), Superman III (1983), Spies Like Us (1985) and Stargate (1994).

Murton died in England in December 2009.
