Biography
Richard L. Johnson is an American production designer and art director. He began his career in the early 1980s as an assistant art director on television series including One Day at a Time and Three's a Crowd, later working as art director and production designer on films and television movies such as Stone Cold (1991), Extreme Justice (1993) and Bonanza: Under Attack (1995).
Johnson has served as supervising art director or art director on numerous feature films, including The Truman Show (1998), A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001), The Avengers (2012), Pacific Rim (2013), The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), The Hateful Eight (2015), Ghost in the Shell (2017), Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood (2019) and Bird Box (2018). He has also worked as production designer on Citadel (2023), The Electric State (2025) and Digger (2026). He received a Primetime Emmy nomination and multiple Art Directors Guild nominations.
