Biography
Warren Clarke (born Alan James Clarke) was an English actor. He began his career in amateur dramatics and worked in repertory theatre before gaining attention with assorted television and film roles in the late 1960s.
His first major film role was as Dim in Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange (1971). He appeared in films including Firefox (1982) and Top Secret! (1984), and on television in Blackadder (1983), Midsomer Murders (1997) and Call the Midwife (2012). Clarke was best known for his long-running lead role as Detective Superintendent Andy Dalziel in the BBC series Dalziel and Pascoe (1996–2007).
He also directed episodes of Dalziel and Pascoe and returned to the stage in later years, including a portrayal of Winston Churchill.
