Biography
David Brenner was an American film editor. Born in Hollywood, California, on 3 November 1962, he died on 17 February 2022 in West Hollywood, California. He attended North Hollywood High School and Stanford University, began as an apprentice editor on Radioactive Dreams (1984), and worked as an assistant editor on several early films before becoming an editor.
Brenner collaborated frequently with director Oliver Stone, editing nine of his films. He shared the Academy Award for Best Film Editing for Born on the Fourth of July (1989) with Joe Hutshing. He was elected a member of the American Cinema Editors. Other credits include The Day After Tomorrow (2004), 2012 (2009), Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), Justice League (2017) and its director's cut, and Avatar: The Way of Water (2022).
He also worked with Roland Emmerich on Independence Day (1996), The Patriot (2000), The Day After Tomorrow and 2012. Avatar: The Way of Water is dedicated to his memory.
