Biography
Eraldo Da Roma, born Eraldo Judiconi, was an Italian film editor. He began his career in the 1930s after an early attempt at singing as a tenor, working first as an assistant cameraman before editing his first films in the mid-1930s.
He became known as a leading editor of Italian neorealism through his work with Roberto Rossellini and Vittorio De Sica on films including Rome, Open City (1945), Paisan (1946), Germany, Year Zero (1948) and Bicycle Thieves (1948). Later credits include Michelangelo Antonioni’s L’Avventura (1960), La Notte (1961), L’Eclisse (1962) and Red Desert (1964). He edited more than 130 films over a career spanning nearly four decades.
Da Roma was the uncle of film editor Nino Baragli. He died in Rome in 1981.
