Biography
Haskell Wexler was an American cinematographer, director and producer. He worked on numerous feature films from the 1950s onwards and received five Academy Award nominations for cinematography.
Wexler shot Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966), for which he won the Oscar for Best Cinematography (Black-and-White). He also photographed In the Heat of the Night (1967), The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), The Conversation (1974), One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) and Bound for Glory (1976), the last of which brought him a second Oscar. He directed the 1969 film Medium Cool and contributed additional photography to Days of Heaven (1978).
Wexler was born in Chicago and died in Santa Monica, California, in 2015. He was noted for his work on politically engaged projects and received a lifetime achievement award from the American Society of Cinematographers.
