Biography
Henry Blanke (born Heinz Blanke) was a German-born film producer who worked extensively at Warner Bros. He was born on 30 December 1901 in Steglitz, Berlin, the son of painter Wilhelm Blanke, and died on 28 May 1981 in Los Angeles.
Blanke began his career in Germany as a film cutter in 1920 and later assisted Ernst Lubitsch. He served as production manager on Fritz Lang's Metropolis (1927) before emigrating to Hollywood, where he became a key figure at Warner Bros. for over three decades, rising to production supervisor.
Among his credits as producer or associate producer are The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), Jezebel (1938), The Life of Emile Zola (1937), The Maltese Falcon (1941), The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948), The Fountainhead (1949) and The Nun's Story (1959). He received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture for the last of these.
