Biography

Ira Steven Behr is an American television screenwriter and producer. Born on 23 October 1953 in New York, he graduated from Lehman College with degrees in mass communications and theatre before moving to Los Angeles to work in television.

Behr wrote for series including Fame and served as a producer on Star Trek: The Next Generation. He joined Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) as supervising producer, rising to executive producer and showrunner; he wrote or co-wrote 53 of its 176 episodes. His later credits include writing and producing on Outlander, The 4400, Alphas and The Twilight Zone (2002). He co-authored books on the Ferengi, including The Ferengi Rules of Acquisition and Legends of the Ferengi.
