Biography
D.C. Fontana was an American television scriptwriter and story editor, best known for her work on the original Star Trek series (1966). She began her career in television after working as a secretary for Gene Roddenberry on The Lieutenant. She contributed to multiple episodes of Star Trek, including as story editor, and helped develop the backstory of the character Spock and Vulcan culture.
Fontana wrote for later Star Trek productions, including the pilot episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987), which she co-wrote with Roddenberry, and episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993). Her other credits include The Six Million Dollar Man (1974), Dallas (1978), Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (1979) and Babylon 5 (1994). She received Writers Guild of America awards and was inducted into halls of fame for screenwriters.
