Biography

Kris Bowers is an American composer, pianist and director. Born in Los Angeles, he studied jazz and classical piano at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and the Colburn School before earning bachelor's and master's degrees in jazz performance from the Juilliard School.

He has composed scores for films including Green Book (2018), King Richard (2021), The Color Purple (2023), Bob Marley: One Love (2024) and The Wild Robot (2024), and for television series including Bridgerton (2020–) and When They See Us (2019). Bowers co-directed the short documentaries A Concerto Is a Conversation (2021) and The Last Repair Shop (2023) with Ben Proudfoot; the latter won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Film. He received a Daytime Emmy Award for his work on The Snowy Day.
