Biography
Lionel Wigram is a British film producer and screenwriter. Born on 22 December 1962 in London, he was educated at Eton College and the University of Oxford, where he co-founded the Oxford Film Foundation.
He began his career as a runner for producer Elliott Kastner and later produced several low-budget films in partnership with Cassian Elwes. Wigram spent a decade working as an executive and producer in the independent sector, including running Geena Davis and Renny Harlin’s company The Forge and working at Alive Films. In November 2000 he was named senior vice president of production at Warner Bros., where he acquired the rights to the Harry Potter book series and oversaw the eight-film franchise.
As an independent producer with a first-look deal at Warner Bros., Wigram produced Sherlock Holmes (2009) and its sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011), co-writing the story for the first film. He served as producer on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018), and as executive producer on several Harry Potter films.
