Biography
Liza Johnson (born 13 December 1970) is an American film and television director, producer and writer. She was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, and studied at Williams College, graduating with a B.A. in Visual Arts in 1992, followed by an M.F.A. from the University of California, San Diego in 1995.
Johnson has directed the feature films Return (2011), Hateship, Loveship (2013), Elvis & Nixon (2016) and Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie (2024), as well as numerous short films. Her television directing credits include episodes of The Last of Us (2023), The Diplomat (2023–), The Residence (2025) and Paradise (2025). Return was selected for the Directors' Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival.
