Biography
Norman Reynolds was a British production designer and art director. Born on 26 March 1934 in Willesden, London, he began working in film design after a commission for illuminated signs on the 1962 film The Road to Hong Kong. He joined Elstree Studios in 1963 and worked on titles including The Saint television series and Thunderball (1965).
Reynolds served as art director on Star Wars (1977) and as production designer on The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983). He was production designer on Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), for which he shared an Academy Award and won a BAFTA Award. Other credits include art direction on Superman (1978) and Superman II (1980), and production design on Empire of the Sun (1987), Alien³ (1992) and Mission: Impossible (1996). He died on 6 April 2023.
Reynolds lived in Cheltenham with his wife Ann and their three daughters. He was known for his modesty, often telling people he worked in a biscuit factory.
