Biography
Ray Lovejoy (18 February 1939 – 18 October 2001) was a British film editor. He began as an assistant to editor Anne V. Coates on films including Lawrence of Arabia (1962), then assisted Anthony Harvey on Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964). Kubrick promoted him to editor on 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968); the two later collaborated on The Shining (1980).
Lovejoy edited around thirty films. He had a long collaboration with director Peter Yates across six pictures, among them Krull (1983) and The Dresser (1983). His other credits include Aliens (1986), for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Film Editing, Batman (1989) and Lost in Space (1998).
