Biography
Richard Marks (10 November 1943 – 31 December 2018) was an American film editor. Born in New York City, he had more than 30 editing credits on feature and television films from 1972 onwards.
Marks began as an assistant editor, working with Dede Allen on Alice's Restaurant (1969) and Little Big Man (1970), and co-editing Serpico (1973). He edited The Godfather Part II (1974) and was supervising editor on Apocalypse Now (1979). From 1983 to 2010 he edited all six feature films directed by James L. Brooks, including Terms of Endearment (1983), Broadcast News (1987) and As Good as It Gets (1997). Other credits include You've Got Mail (1998) and Julie & Julia (2009).
Marks received four Academy Award nominations for editing. In 2013 he was awarded the American Cinema Editors Career Achievement Award. He taught film editing at UCLA.
