Biography
Richard Matheson was an American author and screenwriter who worked primarily in the fantasy, horror and science fiction genres. He was born on 20 February 1926 in Allendale, New Jersey, and died on 23 June 2013 in Calabasas, California.
Matheson wrote 16 episodes of the original The Twilight Zone television series (1959), including 'Nightmare at 20,000 Feet' and 'Steel'. He also wrote the screenplay for the television film Duel (1971), directed by Steven Spielberg, and adapted several Edgar Allan Poe stories for films directed by Roger Corman, such as House of Usher (1960), The Pit and the Pendulum (1961) and The Raven (1963).
His novels and short stories have been adapted into numerous films, including The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957), The Legend of Hell House (1973), Somewhere in Time (1980), What Dreams May Come (1998), Stir of Echoes (1999), The Box (2009) and Real Steel (2011). He also wrote for Star Trek (1966) and contributed to adaptations of his work I Am Legend.
