Biography
Robert Gist (also credited as Robert Marion Gist) was an American actor and television director. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he began his career with stage roles in Chicago and on Broadway, including a long run of Harvey with Josephine Hull. He made his film debut in Miracle on 34th Street (1947).
Gist appeared in supporting roles in films such as Strangers on a Train (1951) as Det. Leslie Hennessey, The Band Wagon (1953), Operation Petticoat (1959) and Al Capone (1959). He later directed episodes of numerous television series, including Peter Gunn, Naked City, The Twilight Zone and Route 66, after expressing interest in directing to Blake Edwards while filming Operation Petticoat.
