Biography
Robert C. Jones was an American film editor and screenwriter. He began his career in the mailroom at 20th Century Fox and went on to edit numerous feature films, including It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963), Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967), Love Story (1970), The Last Detail (1973), Heaven Can Wait (1978) and Days of Thunder (1990).
Jones received an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, shared with Waldo Salt and Nancy Dowd, for Coming Home (1978). He collaborated frequently with directors Stanley Kramer, Hal Ashby and Warren Beatty. Later in his career he taught at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. He died in Los Angeles in 2021.
