Biography
Barry Ackroyd is an English cinematographer. Born on 12 May 1954 in Oldham, Lancashire, he trained in documentary filmmaking before moving into features.
He has collaborated frequently with directors Ken Loach and Paul Greengrass. His credits include The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006), United 93 (2006), The Hurt Locker (2008), Captain Phillips (2013), The Big Short (2015), Jason Bourne (2016) and Detroit (2017). He also served as president of the British Society of Cinematographers.
Ackroyd received a BAFTA Award for The Hurt Locker and an Academy Award nomination for the same film. His recent work includes A House of Dynamite (2025) with Kathryn Bigelow.
