Biography
Benjamin Melniker was an American film producer. He began his career at MGM in 1939, rising to executive vice president and chairman of the film selection committee, where he was involved in deals for films including Ben-Hur, 2001: A Space Odyssey and Dr. Zhivago.
In 1979, Melniker partnered with Michael E. Uslan to acquire the film rights to Batman. He received producer or executive producer credits on every subsequent live-action Batman film from Batman (1989) onwards, as well as the animated feature Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993) and numerous other DC Comics adaptations including Swamp Thing (1982), Constantine (2005) and The Spirit (2008). He died on 26 February 2018.
