Biography
Clarke Peters is an American actor, writer and director. Born Peter Clarke on 7 April 1952 in New York City, he moved to London in 1973 and adopted his professional name to avoid conflict with existing Equity members.
He is best known for his role as Detective Lester Freamon in the HBO series The Wire (2002–2008) and as Albert Lambreaux in Treme (2010–2013). Other notable screen credits include John Wick (2014), Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) and Da 5 Bloods (2020), for which he received a BAFTA nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. He wrote the book for the musical revue Five Guys Named Moe (1990).
In 2026 he appeared as Art Daniels in the Netflix series The Boroughs.
