Biography
Des Hamilton is a casting director and occasional producer and actor. Born in Glasgow, he began casting in 2001 after fellow Glaswegian Lynne Ramsay asked him to find a non-actress to play opposite Samantha Morton in Morvern Callar (2002). He cast the film, including discovering Kathleen McDermott on the street in Glasgow.
Hamilton is based in London with an office in Glasgow. He is known for his work on films including Bronson (2009), Melancholia (2011), Nymphomaniac (2013), The House That Jack Built (2018), Jojo Rabbit (2019) and The King (2019), as well as the series Top Boy. He has received BAFTA awards for casting on Top Boy and for outstanding contribution to craft.
