Biography
Gavin Bocquet is a British production designer. He studied product design at Newcastle Polytechnic and received a Master of Design from the Royal College of Art in 1979. He began his film career in the art department as a draftsman on The Elephant Man (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983), later working as assistant art director and art director on films including Empire of the Sun (1987), Dangerous Liaisons (1988) and Erik the Viking (1989), under mentors Stuart Craig and Norman Reynolds.
Bocquet moved into production design in the early 1990s. His credits include Kafka (1991), Radioland Murders (1994) and The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles (1992–1993), for which he won a Primetime Emmy Award. This led to an extended collaboration with George Lucas on the Star Wars prequel trilogy: Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002) and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005). Later work encompasses Stardust (2007), The Bank Job (2008), Jack the Giant Slayer (2013), Warcraft (2016), Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016) and the series Silo (2023), for which he shared a BAFTA TV Award for Production Design in 2024. In 2025 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the British Film Designers Guild.
