Samuel L. Jackson is an American actor, also credited as Samuel Leroy Jackson. Born on 21 December 1948 in Washington, D.C., he began his professional career on stage. He originated the role of Boy Willie in August Wilson's The Piano Lesson at the Yale Repertory Theatre in 1987 and played Doaker Charles in the 2022 Broadway revival.

Jackson's early film work includes roles in several Spike Lee films such as Do the Right Thing (1989) and Jungle Fever (1991). He achieved wider recognition for his performance as Jules Winnfield in Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction (1994), earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Subsequent credits include Jackie Brown (1997), Django Unchained (2012), The Hateful Eight (2015), The Marvels (2023) as Nick Fury, Argylle (2024) as Alfie, and The Piano Lesson (2024) as Doaker Charles.

In 2022, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented him with an Honorary Award.
