Biography
Gerald B. Greenberg, also credited as Jerry Greenberg, was an American film editor. He was born in New York City on 29 July 1936 and died in Santa Monica, California, on 22 December 2017.
Greenberg began his career editing music for commercials and documentaries before apprenticing under Dede Allen on Elia Kazan’s America America (1963). His first solo feature credit came with Bye Bye Braverman (1968). He received an Academy Award and a BAFTA Award for Best Film Editing for The French Connection (1971), and shared nominations for the same awards for Apocalypse Now (1979) and a further Oscar nomination for Kramer vs. Kramer (1979). He edited more than 40 feature films, including Scarface (1983), The Untouchables (1987), Awakenings (1990) and American History X (1998), and received the American Cinema Editors Career Achievement Award in 2015.
