Biography

Jonathan West, also credited as John West, Jon West or John Wastaferro, is an American cinematographer and director. He began as a camera operator before being promoted to director of photography at Touchstone Pictures in 1985. He later worked extensively at Paramount Pictures.

West served as director of photography on Star Trek: The Next Generation (1992–1994) and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1994–1999), for which he also directed several episodes, including "Trials and Tribble-ations". He subsequently worked on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (2000–2002) and Charmed (2002–2006), directing episodes of the latter. He has received three Primetime Emmy nominations for cinematography, including for The Whereabouts of Jenny (1991) and an episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1997).

West was invited to join the American Society of Cinematographers in 1996. He later contributed as a visual consultant to the documentary What We Left Behind: Looking Back at Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (2018).
