Biography
Owen Roizman was an American cinematographer. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on 22 September 1936, he began his career in television commercials before making his feature debut with Stop (1970). His second film, The French Connection (1971), earned the first of five Academy Award nominations for Best Cinematography.
Roizman worked frequently with directors William Friedkin, Sydney Pollack and Lawrence Kasdan. His credits include The Exorcist (1973), Network (1976), Tootsie (1982), Wyatt Earp (1994) and The Addams Family (1991). He served as president of the American Society of Cinematographers from 1997 to 1998, sat on the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Board of Governors representing the cinematographers' branch, and received an Academy Honorary Award in 2017. His final feature was French Kiss (1995). He died on 6 January 2023.
