Biography
Phedon Papamichael is a Greek cinematographer. His credits include Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023) and A Complete Unknown (2024), both directed by James Mangold. He has worked repeatedly with Mangold and with Alexander Payne on films such as The Descendants (2011), Nebraska (2013) and Downsizing (2017).
Born in Athens in February 1962, Papamichael moved to the United States as a child. He studied photography and fine arts at LMU Munich, receiving a BFA in 1982. His first feature as director of photography was Dance of the Damned (1988).
Papamichael has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for Nebraska (2013) and The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020). He is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers.
