Biography
René Auberjonois was an American actor. He was born in New York City on 1 June 1940 and died in Los Angeles on 8 December 2019. He trained at Carnegie Mellon University and began his career in theatre, appearing with companies including the American Conservatory Theater.
Auberjonois won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical in 1970 for his role in the Broadway production Coco. He received further Tony nominations for The Good Doctor (1973), Big River (1985) and City of Angels (1989), and a Drama Desk Award for Big River. On screen he appeared in several Robert Altman films, including Father Mulcahy in MASH (1970) and Sheehan in McCabe & Mrs. Miller* (1971).
He was best known for television roles as Clayton Endicott III in Benson (1980–1986) and Odo in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993–1999), as well as Paul Lewiston in Boston Legal (2004–2008). He also provided the voice of Chef Louis in the animated film The Little Mermaid (1989).
