Biography

Rick Heinrichs is an American production designer, art director and visual effects artist. He has worked on numerous feature films and television series, with credits including production design on Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (2025) and Glass Onion (2022).

He graduated from Boston University with a BFA in fine arts in 1976 and attended the California Institute of the Arts. Heinrichs began his career in visual effects and animation at Disney, where he met Tim Burton; the two became frequent collaborators on projects such as Edward Scissorhands (1990), Batman Returns (1992) and Sleepy Hollow (1999).

Heinrichs won the Academy Award for Best Art Direction for Sleepy Hollow and received further Oscar nominations for Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004) and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006). Other notable production design credits include Fargo (1996), The Big Lebowski (1998), Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) and Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017).
