Biography
Simon Channing Williams (also credited as Simon Channing-Williams) was a British film producer. He began his career at the BBC in the 1970s, working as an assistant director and production assistant on television projects alongside directors including Stephen Frears, Mike Newell, Michael Apted and Mike Leigh.
In 1988 he and Leigh founded Thin Man Films, which produced all of Leigh's subsequent feature films, among them High Hopes (1988), Life Is Sweet (1991), Naked (1993), Secrets & Lies (1996), Topsy-Turvy (1999), All or Nothing (2002), Vera Drake (2004) and Happy-Go-Lucky (2008). In 2000 he co-founded Potboiler Productions with Gail Egan; through the company he produced films including Nicholas Nickleby (2002) and The Constant Gardener (2005).
Channing Williams died of cancer on 11 April 2009 in Cornwall, aged 63.
