Biography
Jim Broadbent is an English actor. He was born on 24 May 1949 in Lincoln, Lincolnshire, and trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, graduating in 1972.
Broadbent first gained prominence in the 1980s with television comedy roles, including Roy Slater in Only Fools and Horses. His film work includes appearances in Terry Gilliam's Time Bandits (1981) and Brazil (1985), and a breakthrough in Mike Leigh's Life Is Sweet (1990).
He is known for roles such as Bridget's father in Bridget Jones's Diary (2001) and its sequels, Horace Slughorn in the Harry Potter films (2009–2011), Samuel Gruber in the Paddington series (2014–2024), and Archmaester Ebrose in Game of Thrones (2017). Broadbent won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Iris (2001), a BAFTA TV Award and Golden Globe for Longford (2006), and a BAFTA Film Award for Moulin Rouge! (2001).
