Biography
Timothy Spall is an English actor. Born on 27 February 1957 in Battersea, London, he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He first gained prominence in the United Kingdom for his role as Barry Spencer Taylor in the ITV series Auf Wiedersehen, Pet (1983–2004).
Spall has frequently collaborated with director Mike Leigh on six films, including Secrets & Lies (1996), Topsy-Turvy (1999) and Mr. Turner (2014), for which he received the Best Actor award at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. He played Peter Pettigrew in five Harry Potter films (2004–2010) and Winston Churchill in The King's Speech (2010). In 2024 he appeared as Edward Swan in Wicked Little Letters.
He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2000. His son Rafe Spall is also an actor.
