Biography
Eddie Marsan is an English actor. Born in Stepney, London, he trained at the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and began his career in theatre before moving into film and television.
He is known for roles including Etheridge in V for Vendetta (2006), Inspector Lestrade in the Sherlock Holmes films (2009, 2011), and Red in Hancock (2008). He has collaborated several times with director Mike Leigh, winning the British Independent Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for Vera Drake (2004) and again for Happy-Go-Lucky (2008), for which he also received the London Film Critics Circle Award and the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Marsan appeared as Mitch Winehouse in Back to Black (2024) and as Campbell in Fair Play (2023). He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2025 New Year Honours for services to drama.
