Biography
Stephen McKinley Henderson is an American actor born on 31 August 1949 in Kansas City, Missouri. He trained at the Juilliard School, the North Carolina School of the Arts, where he earned a BFA, and Purdue University, where he received an MA in theatre.
Henderson is known for his extensive work in the plays of August Wilson, including Broadway performances in King Hedley II (2001), Fences (2010) and Between Riverside and Crazy (2023). He received Tony Award nominations for the latter two. His film roles include Jim Bono in Fences (2016), Father Leviatch in Lady Bird (2017), Thufir Hawat in Dune (2021), the Therapist in Beau Is Afraid (2023) and Sammy in Civil War (2024).
