Biography

Brandon Scott Trost (born 29 August 1981) is an American cinematographer and director. He was born in Los Angeles, California, where his father worked as a special effects coordinator, and trained at the Los Angeles Film School.

Trost began his career on independent films including Crank: High Voltage (2009) and MacGruber (2010). He has frequently collaborated with Seth Rogen as director of photography on This Is the End (2013), Neighbors (2014), The Interview (2014) and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016). He also directed The FP (2011) with his brother Jason Trost and made his solo directorial debut with An American Pickle (2020).

His recent credits as cinematographer include Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022), Nightbitch (2024), Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024) and The Naked Gun (2025). He won the Sundance Film Festival Cinematography Award (Dramatic) for The Diary of a Teenage Girl (2015).
