Biography
Cristóbal Tapia de Veer, also known as One Ton, is a Chilean-born Canadian composer, arranger, producer and multi-instrumentalist. He was born on 18 October 1973 in Santiago, Chile, and is based in Montreal, Quebec. He holds a master's degree in classical music, specialising in percussion, from the Conservatoire de musique du Québec.
He first gained attention as a member of the pop band One Ton, which had a Canadian dance hit with "Supersex World" in 2003. Tapia de Veer began scoring for television with the 2011 miniseries The Crimson Petal and the White, followed by Utopia (2013). He is known for his work on Black Mirror (2017 episode "Black Museum"), Humans (2015), The White Lotus (2021–), the films Smile (2022) and Smile 2 (2024), and Babygirl (2024). He is also scoring the forthcoming series Lord of the Flies (2026).
Tapia de Veer has received multiple Primetime Emmy Awards for The White Lotus, a SOCAN International Achievement Award in 2017, and other honours including a BAFTA and Royal Television Society awards.
