Biography
David M. Dunlap is an American cinematographer. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he graduated from the Philadelphia College of Art (now the University of the Arts) with a BFA in film. He began his career in New York City as a focus puller on features including Martin Scorsese’s After Hours (1985) and the Coen brothers’ Raising Arizona (1987).
Dunlap worked extensively as a camera operator and second unit director of photography on films such as GoodFellas (1990), Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992), Forrest Gump (1994) and A Beautiful Mind (2001), often alongside cinematographer Michael Ballhaus. He served as director of photography on Shaun of the Dead (2004), The Calcium Kid (2004) and Game 6 (2006).
In television, Dunlap has been director of photography on series including Gossip Girl (2009–2012), House of Cards (2016–2018) and episodes of Orange Is the New Black (2019). He was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series for House of Cards.
