Biography
Fran Walsh is a New Zealand screenwriter and film producer. Born Frances Rosemary Walsh on 10 January 1959 in Wellington, she studied English literature at Victoria University of Wellington.
She is the partner of filmmaker Peter Jackson and has co-written the screenplays for all his films since Meet the Feebles (1989). Their early collaboration includes Heavenly Creatures (1994), for which they received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Walsh has also contributed as a producer on later projects.
She is best known for her work on the Lord of the Rings film trilogy (2001–2003) and the Hobbit trilogy (2012–2014), sharing three Academy Awards for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) in the categories of Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Song.
