Biography
Philippa Boyens is a New Zealand screenwriter and producer. She co-wrote the screenplays for Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003), all with Jackson and Fran Walsh.
Boyens was born in Auckland and studied English and history at the University of Auckland. She worked as a drama teacher and in theatre before joining the writing team on the Lord of the Rings films. With Jackson and Walsh she also wrote King Kong (2005), The Lovely Bones (2009) and the Hobbit trilogy (2012–2014). She received an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Return of the King in 2004 and was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
