Biography
George Joseph Amy (also credited as George J. Amy) was an American film editor. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he began his career at the age of 17 and found his niche at Warner Bros. in the 1930s.
Amy edited numerous Warner Bros. productions, including Here Comes the Navy (1934), Gold Diggers of 1933 (1933), Captain Blood (1935), The Sea Hawk (1940), The Letter (1940), Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942) and Objective, Burma! (1945). He won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing for Air Force (1943) and received Oscar nominations for Yankee Doodle Dandy and Objective, Burma!. He was a frequent collaborator with directors Michael Curtiz and Howard Hawks. Amy also directed several shorts and a few features, including She Had to Say Yes (1933). In the 1950s he worked in editing and directing for television.
