Biography

Manon Rasmussen (born 2 August 1951) is a Danish costume designer. Born in Horsens, she initially studied acting and was a member of the theatre group Solvognen from 1974 to 1975. In 1976 she trained as a tailor at Københavns Tilskærerakademi, specialising in theatre costumes.

She began working in film in 1978 as an assistant to costume designer Gitte Kolvig. Rasmussen has collaborated extensively with director Lars von Trier on most of his feature films since Images of Liberation (1982), including Breaking the Waves (1996), Dancer in the Dark (2000), Dogville (2003), Melancholia (2011) and Nymphomaniac (2013). She has also worked with Thomas Vinterberg, Bille August and Susanne Bier on titles such as The Hunt (2012) and Another Round (2020).

Rasmussen has received 17 Robert Awards for Best Costume Design, a record for the category, as well as a Satellite Award for A Royal Affair (2012).
